Gesture Sketches

This whole summer so far I've been working on capturing life and gesture into my drawings. My biggest problem seems to be that I get caught up in detail, and as a result, my drawings look stiff and lifeless. As an aspiring animator/story artist (whatever, like I even know at this point yet), I working on staying away from clutter-y and unnecessary detail, and simply just capturing the essence of movement and character. While I still have a looooooong way to go, I think I'm making tiny improvements here and there. Life drawing certainly has gotten less frustrating and daunting.

I have to mention that Walt Stanchfield, Dave Pimentel, Pascal Campion, and Paul Briggs (and my professor David Zung!) have been awesome teachers and inspirations this summer. So here are some sketchbook samples of my attempts on gesture drawing.
